A note from Rick Weights
Headteacher, Monk Fryston School The beer festival is our major social and fundraising event of the Year. The sense of community and camaraderie that is developed through the event, bringing our families, staff and neighbours together, is wonderful and truly represents the supportive nature of our wonderful village. As a school, we are incredibly grateful for the money that has been raised over a number of years, and this ensures our children have resources that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to access. In an age of escalating costs and restrictive budgets, we have become increasingly reliant upon donations to achieve what we need to give our children the very best start in life.
In 2019, we used the funding raised from the Beer Festival along with other donations and funds from our PTA to create a new treehouse accommodation in school – the Headspace. This is a purpose-built room that offers dedicated space for pupils to receive pastoral support, counselling or mindfulness activities. The room is insulated, heated and lit so that we can use it all year round. It has soft furnishings and sensory equipment such as mood lighting, bubble tubes and colour-changing mats. It has quickly become a valuable part of our provision and gives children the necessary space to relax and become calm, away from the busy classroom environment. Coming out of the pandemic we have noted that children’s mental health and wellbeing requires dedicated attention and the Headspace offers us the opportunity to provide essential support. We could not have achieved this without the support of the Beer Festival. This year, the PTA are raising funds to support the upgrading of essential ICT equipment in school. During the pandemic we found that we became increasingly reliant upon ICT. Pupils were experiencing remote learning and we all had to adjust to the use of new technologies. These skills remain vital, and our children use Chromebooks throughout their curriculum work to enrich their learning and ensure that it meets the requirements of the modern digital age. Sadly, our technology requires regular upgrades if it is to remain reliable and accessible. We need a new class set of Chromebooks as our current set has reached the end of life and will soon become unstable. This will benefit every child in school but is a cost that just cannot be borne by the school’s delegated budget. We are all looking forward to another wonderful, entertaining event. We hope that all our families and visitors thoroughly enjoy the weekend. We would like to extend heart-felt thanks to everyone involved in the event for their hard work and dedication, and to all those who join in. Your support is really appreciated. Tickets
